The Saratoga Chamber of Commerce keeps its office at 14460 Big Basin Way. On Friday, November 27, 2026, that one storefront is where two separate events begin. At 3 p.m. families arrive for Candy Cane Village, which is free. At 5 p.m. the crowd changes. Adults with ticket confirmations and photo IDs line up at the same door to collect a wristband, a wine glass and a brochure for the Holiday Wine Experience.
Last year the City of Saratoga lit the Village tree in Blaney Plaza between those two windows, at 5:30 p.m. on the Friday after Thanksgiving. The 2026 date hasn't been posted.
The order of the evening is the point. Two of the day's events are confirmed, and both run through the Village's shops, restaurants and tasting rooms. If the City keeps last year's slot, a third host fills the gap between them.
The Friday, Hour by Hour
Here is the shape of November 27. The middle slot comes from last year's schedule because the 2026 date has not been posted yet:
- 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Candy Cane Village, hosted by the Chamber at 14460 Big Basin Way. Free and open to the public.
- 5:00 p.m. Check-in opens at the Chamber for the evening wine event.
- 5:30 p.m., in 2025 The City's Annual Holiday Tree Lighting in Blaney Plaza ran from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Friday, November 28, 2025. The City's November 2026 community events calendar doesn't list a tree lighting yet.
- 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Saratoga's Holiday Wine Experience winds through Historic Saratoga Village.
The two confirmed events cover a six-hour window from 3 to 9 p.m. on one short stretch of road, and the 2025 lighting fell in the gap between them.
The Afternoon Is Built for Children
The Chamber's 2026 listing for Candy Cane Village gives the time, the address and the word "free," and not much more. The best guide to what the afternoon looks like is the City's description from Friday, November 29, 2024. That year's lineup had free pictures with Santa and his elves, horse-drawn carriage rides, arts and crafts, a magician, a photo booth, and live music with a sing-along led by AndyZ. LED balloons, hot cocoa and treats were sold on site.
The program can change from year to year, so treat the 2024 list as a sense of scale. Either way, Candy Cane Village fills the late afternoon. In 2024 it ran until 5:30 p.m. This year's listing ends it at 5 p.m., half an hour before the time the tree was lit in 2025.
Dusk Is the City's Hour
The City's own invitation for 2025 said outright that the tree lighting is meant to keep people in the Village. "Come early and stay late, enjoy the downtown shops and restaurants, and bundle up for a beautiful evening," the City wrote, and it called the 5:30 p.m. lighting in Blaney Plaza "the main event" of the holiday kickoff.
The ceremony itself is short. The Saratoga Falcon, Saratoga High's student newspaper, covered the 2023 lighting. It described a tree of roughly 20 feet with multicolored lights and a star, student choirs, remarks from then-Mayor Kookie Fitzsimmons, and a countdown before the lights came on.
The 2026 date isn't set yet, so check the City of Saratoga calendar before you plan around it. The lighting has fallen on the Friday after Thanksgiving in recent years, between the Chamber's afternoon and evening events. If it holds that slot in 2026, it becomes the link between the two.
After Six, Big Basin Way Becomes a Tasting Route
The evening is the Chamber's again, and this part is ticketed. Saratoga's Holiday Wine Experience costs $50 in advance or $60 at the door. Door sales at the Chamber stop at 7:30 p.m. A group of eight pays $375. Processing fees and tax are added to all of those prices. Tickets are sold through the Chamber's event page. Every attendee needs a valid photo ID, and a ticket confirmation on your phone is accepted.
The Chamber says the event is offered together with "our charming Historic Saratoga Village merchants and restaurants," with wineries "from near and far" pouring along the route and live music from Kurt & Johnny. The list of tasting stops comes in the brochure handed out at check-in. The public event page doesn't name them. So the route is only fully known on the night, and only to people holding a glass.
One Village tasting room is open on any regular weekend, stroll or not. Roudon Smith Winery's room at 14572A Big Basin Way lists public hours of 2 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Sunday, and 1 to 7 p.m. on Saturday. Whether it's on this year's stroll route depends on the brochure. Either way, it's a Village wine stop on the other Fridays and Saturdays of the season.
The wine evening continues a pattern the Chamber has followed all year. Saratoga Nights, held on the first Thursday of each month from May through October 2026, ended its season on October 1. As Silicon Valley's Mercury News group reported in June, organizers added food options after feedback from attendees and described the series as a way to introduce people to the Village's restaurants and bring foot traffic downtown. The holiday Friday follows the same model on a busier date. The events give people a reason to come, and the shops and restaurants are where they spend the evening.
Getting There and Staying Put
The Chamber's listing for the evening says free parking is available throughout Historic Saratoga Village and links to a map of lot locations. The summer's biggest Village day worked differently. For the Classic & Cool Car Show on July 26, Big Basin Way was closed to through traffic from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m., and the City ran a free shuttle between West Valley College Lot 5 and Saratoga Federated Church.
For the holiday Friday, the Chamber points visitors to the Village lots. Check-in for the wine event opens at 5 p.m. Families who arrive for the afternoon can stay parked for the tree lighting at dusk.
Eight Days Later, a Different Host on Park Place
Saratoga Federated Church, at 20390 Park Place, holds the next gathering of the season. Its Community Carol Sing is set for Saturday, December 5, 2026, at 6:30 p.m. in the church parking lot. The church invites people to sing beneath its Christmas tree and promises free cocoa and snacks, giveaways and goodies for children, and possibly "snow." The listing mentions no admission price or tickets.
The Carol Sing works on a different model from the Village Friday. There's one host, one evening and one tree, with no tasting route and no list of merchants. It's the clearest December date in Saratoga's community calendar, and it falls eight days after the Village's holiday Friday.
Two quieter November dates come before all of this. On Sunday, November 1, the SMASH Maker Fair runs from 2 to 5 p.m. in the Saratoga High School courtyard at 20300 Herriman Avenue. On Saturday, November 14, the mayor holds office hours from 10 a.m. to noon at the Saratoga Farmers' Market, 14000 Fruitvale Avenue. After those, the season builds toward 3 p.m. on November 27, when the Chamber office opens for Candy Cane Village.
